Arteta Reflects on Arsenal’s Title Miss: Injuries and Red Cards Took a Toll

In a recent interview, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta offered a frank assessment of why the Gunners fell short of winning the 2024/2025 Premier League title, pointing to injuries and red cards as major setbacks.

Speaking candidly with reporters, Arteta emphasized the impact of unavailable players throughout the season. “For sure. Red cards and injuries,” he said when asked if those issues contributed to the team’s struggles in the title race.

Despite showing consistency and determination throughout the campaign, Arsenal’s efforts were hampered by a series of injuries to key players and costly disciplinary issues during pivotal matches.

Arsenal’s Red Card Woes
Arsenal received five red cards during the Premier League season—more than any other club in the league. The dismissals disrupted several important fixtures and included:

  • Declan Rice – vs. Brighton & Hove Albion (49th minute)

  • Leandro Trossard – vs. Manchester City (45+8 minutes)

  • William Saliba – vs. Bournemouth (30th minute)

  • Myles Lewis-Skelly – vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers (43rd minute)

  • Myles Lewis-Skelly – vs. West Ham United (73rd minute)

The repeated setbacks in squad availability made it difficult for Arsenal to maintain momentum in the title race.

Looking ahead, Arteta is expected to focus on reinforcing the squad and addressing the issues that derailed their championship push, as the team sets its sights on a stronger campaign next season.
