Mick Jagger, 81, and girlfriend Melanie Hamrick, 37, confirm engagement

Sir Mick Jagger’s girlfriend Melanie Hamrick has confirmed they got engaged, but there are no wedding bells yet.

The 81-year-old Rolling Stones legend, who first met the Beast of Burden singer, 37, when they were both touring Japan 11 years ago, welcomed son Devereaux Octavian Basil into the world in 2016.

Now, Melanie has finally confirmed they are engaged while revealing the rock icon actually proposed a few years ago.

“We’ve been engaged two or three years,” she told Paris Match, translated from French.

At the moment, there are still no plans to get married as she admitted she doesn’t really want to “change anything” about their relationship.

She added: “Maybe one day we’ll marry, maybe not. We are so happy in our current life that I would be too afraid to change anything.”

When it comes to their long lasting romance, she insisted the secret is “support” and happiness.

“We try to support each other, be there for each other, and make sure everyone is happy,” Melanie said. “That’s all that matters to me and all I strive for.”

Back in 2023, Melanie hinted at their engagement when she stepped out with a huge diamond right on her ring finger.

“I mean, I have to giggle because did Mick give me the ring? Yes. Is it for that finger? Yes,” she told PEOPLE at the time.

“But are we like, horny teenagers where we’re giving each other… In my mind, it’s a promise ring. We’ll be immature and call it a promise ring.”

At the time, a source claimed that during a trip to New York, Melanie “was at the American Ballet Theatre and she was telling her friends she was engaged to Mick”.

The insider told the Mirror: “She was very clear her ring is an ­engagement ring and she is now his fiancée. Her family also very much understand them to be engaged and are thrilled.”

In addition to the son that Sir Mick shares with Melanie, the musician has seven other children, bringing the total of his brood to eight.

His first child, Karis Hunt Jagger, was born in 1970 through his relationship with American singer Marsha Hunt.

He was married to Bianca Pérez-Mora Macias from 1971 to 1977, and the former couple had a daughter, Jade Sheena Jezebel Jagger.

In 1977, he started dating model Jerry Hall, with whom he had four children: Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ Scarlett Jagger, James Leroy Augustin Jagger, Georgia May Ayeesha Jagger and Gabriel Luke Beauregard Jagger.

Sir Mick’s seventh child, Lucas Maurice Morad Jagger, was born after he had an affair with model Luciana Gimenez during his relationship with Jerry.

Sir Mick and Jerry split in 1999 after she found out about the affair, while he was also in a relationship with fashion designer L’Wren Scott,a which started in 2001.
