Mayorkun hints at leaving Nigeria
Popular Afrobeats sensation Emmanuel Adewale, widely recognized by his stage name Mayorkun, has suggested that he may consider leaving Nigeria due to the increasing economic challenges and hardships facing the country.
The “Mayor of Lagos” hitmaker took to his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday to share his thoughts, stating, “I dey reason to japa,” a popular Nigerian slang that translates to “I’m considering relocating.”
Mayorkun’s comment has since ignited widespread discussions among fans and social media users, further fueling the ongoing debate about the rising number of Nigerian celebrities opting to move abroad in search of better opportunities and improved living conditions.
In recent years, several prominent figures in the Nigerian entertainment industry—including Banky W, Tacha, eLDee, Dr. Sid, Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Rita Dominic, Uche Jombo, and Emeka Ike—have either permanently relocated or frequently spent time outside the country for career growth and personal reasons.
While Mayorkun has not explicitly confirmed any relocation plans, his statement sheds light on a growing trend among Nigerian entertainers and professionals seeking stability and advancement beyond the nation’s borders.
