Marcus Rashford's incredible season comes to an end
Marcus Rashford’s impressive stint at Aston Villa appears to have come to an early end after reports emerged of the England international suffering a hamstring injury.
The injury could sideline Rashford for the rest of the Premier League season, with the club expected to conduct further assessments to determine the extent of the damage.
Since arriving on loan from Manchester United in January, Rashford has made a significant impact, registering four goals and six assists in 17 matches. With only four games remaining, it seems increasingly likely that he has already made his final appearance for Villa.
Adding to the complications, Rashford is ineligible to face Manchester United, his parent club, on the season’s final day. He also missed Villa’s FA Cup semi-final loss to Crystal Palace due to the injury, with manager Unai Emery confirming his absence and starting Ollie Watkins in his place—a move that ultimately couldn’t prevent Villa’s exit. Prior to the injury, Rashford had featured consistently since joining the club.
Currently sitting seventh in the Premier League, Aston Villa remain in strong contention for European qualification. However, Rashford’s future beyond this season is uncertain, as he reportedly desires a move to a club competing in the Champions League.
A return to Manchester United seems improbable, with tensions between Rashford and manager Ruben Amorim over training attitude and work ethic reportedly playing a role in his departure.
Meanwhile, fellow Manchester United loanee Antony is also expected to move on this summer. After joining Real Betis in January, the Brazilian winger has found form in La Liga, tallying nine goal contributions in 18 appearances.
