Manchester United’s wonderkid reportedly set for a move to Napoli

Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho could be set to leave the club, either during the current transfer window or at the end of the 2024/25 season, to join Napoli.

Sky Germany confirmed the news on Thursday, January 16, 2025, reporting that a deal has been agreed in principle for Garnacho’s move to the Italian side.

Why is Manchester United considering Garnacho’s sale?

Reports suggest that the club is aiming to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Selling homegrown players like Garnacho and Marcus Rashford allows Manchester United to generate 100% profit from the transfers, as both players rose through the club’s academy ranks.

Why does Napoli want Garnacho?

The former Serie A champions have reportedly agreed terms with Alejandro Garnacho to join as a replacement for Kvicha Kvaratskhelia, whose transfer to Paris Saint-Germain is nearing completion.

Additionally, Napoli’s manager, Antonio Conte, is said to be an admirer of Garnacho’s talent and views him as a player who fits his tactical approach. Garnacho’s limited opportunities at Manchester United since Ruben Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag as head coach have made him a more attainable target for the Italian club.
