Manchester City eliminated from the FIFA Club World Cup after 4-3 extra-time defeat to Al-Hilal
Manchester City have been knocked out of the Club World Cup at the last-16 stage after being stunned in extra time by Saudi Arabia side Al-Hilal in an incredible seven-goal thriller.
Pep Guardiola’s side had come through the group stages but failed to reach the quarter-finals after conceding four times due to a poor defensive display.
Bernardo Silva opened the scoring just nine minutes into what would prove to be an eventful night at a hot and humid Camping World Stadium.
Al-Hilal responded with two goals in the first six minutes of the second half through Marcos Leonardo and Malcom before Erling Haaland quickly equalised.
The Saudi Arabian side again took the lead early in extra time through Kalidou Koulibaly before Phil Foden’s 100th City goal pulled us level.
However, it was Leonardo who proved the match-winner late on for Al-Hilal.
Al Halil will meet Fluminense on Friday in Orlando. The Brazilian side beat Inter Milan 2-0 earlier Monday.
