Marcus Rashford’s United Future in Doubt as January Window Looms

Marcus Rashford’s time at Manchester United appears to be nearing its end. New manager Ruben Amorim left the 27-year-old out of the matchday squad for a third consecutive Premier League game last weekend, a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

With the January transfer window just days away, United are reportedly eager to offload Rashford to free up funds for squad improvements, as they languish in 13th place. Strangely, despite his uncertain future, Rashford is featured on the cover of United’s 2025 calendar and represents the month of January.

A source told The Sun that Rashford’s future remains uncertain and hinted he might depart once the transfer window opens. However, his £350,000-per-week contract, signed after a stellar 30-goal season in 2022/23, complicates any potential move.

Unless United agree to cover a substantial portion of his salary, finding a suitor willing to take on his lucrative deal seems improbable, leaving the club in a difficult predicament.

Rashford himself is keen on leaving the club he has spent his entire professional career at. On the weekend he was left out of the United squad for their miraculous derby day triumph over Manchester City, he gave an interview outlining how he believed he was ready for “a new challenge”.

Speaking to Henry Winter, Rashford said: “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps…When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.

“If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.”
