Losing my wife as governor biggest regret - Umo Eno
Akwa Ibom State governor Umo Eno has revealed that the loss of his wife, Patience Umo Eno, remains his most painful regret since assuming office.
Patience Eno passed away on September 26, 2024, following an illness. Her death left a profound void in the governor’s life, one that he says continues to affect him personally and in the course of his public service.
In an emotional interview with Arise TV, Governor Eno reflected on his journey so far, describing both the accomplishments that have given him fulfillment and the private grief that has weighed heavily on him.
He explained that beyond policies and infrastructure, his proudest achievement is the emotional bond he has cultivated with the people of Akwa Ibom. He said his administration’s priority has been to make real, tangible differences in the lives of ordinary citizens, especially those in rural areas.
“Two projects stand clearly for me,” Eno said. “We have the Arise Compassionate Homes for indigent people. You need to see where these people used to live before now. And then now they can have a place they call home. We’re doing 500 of such homes across the length and breadth of the state, each ward, and we’ve done 267 so far.”
While reflecting on milestones in office, the governor became emotional as he spoke about his late wife. On his deepest regret, he admitted: “It’s painful. I wish she was here with me right now. Sometimes it’s tough.”
Eno described the experience of losing his partner while serving as governor as a heavy burden that has tested his resilience, even as he continues to carry out his duties.
