Liverpool Dealt Injury Blow as Jeremie Frimpong Ruled Out Until After International Break

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that his side will be without defender Jeremie Frimpong for the next few weeks after the Dutch full-back suffered a hamstring injury. The setback rules him out of the Reds’ upcoming Premier League clash against Newcastle United on Monday, August 25, 2025, as well as other key fixtures leading into the international break.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Slot revealed that medical assessments advised Frimpong’s early withdrawal during Liverpool’s last outing, a decision that has now proven to be the right call.

“The medical team was completely right about Jeremie, to take him off because he’s out until the end of the international break,” Slot explained. “I think I got criticised a bit for taking him off, didn’t I? I’ve already said it had nothing to do with how he played, but we felt he had an issue with his hamstring. The staff were completely right. It was a good call to take him off—otherwise he maybe would have been out for much longer. We expect to have him back after the international break.”

The 23-year-old defender has quickly become an integral part of Liverpool’s system since his arrival, earning plaudits for his pace, attacking threat from wide areas, and defensive solidity. His absence will therefore be keenly felt as the champions look to continue their strong start to the season across both domestic and European fronts.

Frimpong’s injury arrives at a crucial stage, with Liverpool aiming to maintain their momentum and manage a congested fixture schedule. Nonetheless, Slot stressed the importance of squad depth, assuring fans that there are quality alternatives ready to step up during the Dutchman’s spell on the sidelines.

While the setback is significant, Liverpool’s medical staff remain confident that Frimpong’s recovery will not stretch beyond the international break, with the expectation that he will return fully fit for the challenges ahead. For now, the Reds will have to navigate one of their biggest early-season tests without a player who has already established himself as a vital cog in Slot’s system.
