Ademola Lookman is reportedly on course to leave Atalanta during the January 2026 transfer window, following new developments surrounding his future.

The Nigerian international is now believed to be in the final stages of completing a transfer away from the Italian side, with multiple reports claiming he has reached an agreement on personal terms with Spanish giants and former La Liga champions, Atlético Madrid. This breakthrough has significantly accelerated negotiations between all parties involved.

Sources close to the deal reveal that Atlético Madrid submitted an offer worth €35 million, with an additional €5 million in performance-based add-ons, which Atalanta have now accepted. Alongside the club-to-club agreement, Lookman has also approved revised personal terms, clearing one of the final hurdles needed to seal the move. With both the transfer fee and contract details agreed, the deal is now said to be approaching completion, pending final formalities.

The move represents a major step in Lookman’s career, as he prepares for a new challenge in Spain after an impressive spell in Serie A, where his pace, creativity, and goal contributions have made him one of Atalanta’s key attacking players.

It is worth recalling that Turkish side Fenerbahçe had previously shown strong interest in the Super Eagles forward. However, their initial proposal was turned down by Atalanta, who reportedly preferred a deal that offered greater financial and sporting security. That stance ultimately paved the way for Atlético Madrid to move ahead in the race for Lookman’s signature.

If finalized, the transfer would see Lookman bring his talents to La Liga, adding further attacking depth and versatility to Diego Simeone’s squad ahead of the second half of the season.
