Lamine Yamal is reportedly poised to take over Lionel Messi’s legendary No. 10 jersey at Barcelona after signing a new long-term contract with the club this summer.

The 17-year-old sensation has risen to global prominence, emerging as a Ballon d’Or contender following a standout season. He helped Spain clinch the Euros last year and played a key role in Barcelona’s La Liga title win this season.

According to Memorabilia1899.co, Yamal will mark his 18th birthday in July by putting pen to paper on a new deal that includes a staggering €1 billion (£841 million) release clause. As part of the agreement, the No. 10 shirt—currently worn by Ansu Fati, whose future at the club remains uncertain—will be reassigned to Yamal.

Yamal currently dons the No. 19 jersey, the same number Messi wore early in his career before switching to No. 10 in 2008. This symbolic change continues Yamal’s meteoric rise, which began with his debut at just 15 years old.

Since then, he has won two La Liga titles and registered 43 goal contributions in 54 matches during Barcelona’s domestic treble-winning campaign—cementing his status as the future of the club.
