Lamine Yamal breaks a Kylian Mbappe Champions League record

Lamine Yamal has once again etched his name into UEFA Champions League history, surpassing a record previously held by Kylian Mbappé following his latest heroics in Barcelona’s 2–1 victory.

The Spanish wonderkid delivered another outstanding performance on Tuesday night, providing the decisive assist that sealed the win for Barcelona against Eintracht Frankfurt at the newly revamped Camp Nou.

With that contribution, Yamal becomes the player with the most goal involvements in Champions League history before the age of 18—an extraordinary milestone that further cements his status as one of football’s brightest emerging talents.

The match did not begin smoothly for Barcelona. The visitors struck first in the 21st minute through Ansgar Knauff, capitalizing on a moment of defensive disorganization. This came just minutes after Robert Lewandowski thought he had given Barça the lead, only for his goal to be ruled out. Despite the early setback, the Catalans kept their composure and mounted a strong comeback in the second half.

Jules Kounde emerged as the unlikely hero of the night, scoring twice to overturn the deficit. His first goal came via Marcus Rashford, who delivered a precise assist to pull Barcelona level. The winner, however, arrived courtesy of a brilliant moment from Lamine Yamal. The teenager picked out Kounde with a perfectly weighted pass, allowing the defender to slot home the decisive goal.

That assist now brings Yamal’s Champions League tally to an astonishing 14 direct goal contributions—seven goals and seven assists—before even turning 18.

This achievement pushes him past Mbappé’s long-standing record of 13 goal involvements (10 goals and 3 assists) as a teenage sensation in the competition.

In surpassing a benchmark set by one of modern football’s biggest superstars, Yamal has further solidified his reputation as Barcelona’s new generational talent. With each game, he continues to break barriers and redefine what is possible for a player his age on Europe’s biggest stage.
