Kcee addresses rumoured rift with Flavour

Spread the love

Nigerian singer Kcee has finally addressed the long-rumoured tension between himself and highlife star Flavour, giving fans fresh clarity on what may have sparked the perceived rift.

Speculation about their relationship resurfaced in 2024 when Flavour took to social media to criticize an unnamed artist for allegedly copying his style. Although he did not mention anyone directly, Kcee publicly responded, warning against gatekeeping Igbo cultural music — a move that fueled renewed talk of a feud.

Speaking in a new interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Kcee traced the misunderstanding back to their earliest encounter. He revealed that talent manager Soso Soberekon once brought Flavour to him in hopes of securing a record deal. At the time, Kcee was already an established artist and felt Flavour wasn’t the right fit for his label.

“I came into the music industry before Flavour,” Kcee explained. “Soso brought him to me years ago to sign him. I told him I couldn’t sign Flavour because I didn’t see the potential then.”

Kcee emphasized that the decision was never personal, adding that he still doesn’t understand why Flavour may hold any resentment today. He suggested that some of the tension may stem from how colleagues perceive him within the industry.

According to the Ojapiano hitmaker, his humility has often caused people to underestimate him. “A lot of my colleagues underrate me, and my humility contributes to that,” he said. “I don’t brag; I don’t need to. Time always proves them wrong.”

He added that several people who once doubted him have since apologized and acknowledged his achievements.

Kcee’s remarks offer fresh insight into a relationship fans have long debated, while also highlighting how perceptions within the music industry evolve over time.
