Iwobi Breaks Kanu’s Premier League Record

Alex Iwobi continues to shine in the Premier League, achieving a remarkable career milestone during Fulham’s recent 3-2 defeat against West Ham in a thrilling London derby.

Despite his impressive performance, which included scoring twice for his team, Fulham fell short of claiming any points from the encounter.

The match at the London Stadium marked Iwobi’s 274th Premier League appearance, solidifying his position as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished footballers in the league.

This achievement moves him ahead of the legendary Nwankwo Kanu, with whom he was previously tied at 273 appearances, into sole possession of second place on the all-time list for Nigerian players in the Premier League.

Iwobi’s journey in the English top flight has been a testament to his consistency and versatility as a player. He has made 123 appearances for Arsenal, 100 for Everton, and now 51 for Fulham, contributing significantly to each club’s campaigns. This milestone underscores his enduring impact and highlights his status as a key figure in Nigerian football history and the Premier League.

With this latest achievement, Alex Iwobi now ranks second among Nigerian players with the most Premier League appearances, trailing only former Newcastle United star Shola Ameobi. He is just 15 appearances shy of surpassing Ameobi’s record, putting him on the brink of setting a new milestone.

Iwobi’s stellar form this season has further cemented his importance to Fulham. Boasting seven goals and three assists, he has proven himself to be a vital contributor to the team’s success.

Given his consistency and current trajectory, it seems inevitable that Iwobi will soon ascend to the top spot on the all-time Nigerian Premier League appearance list, further solidifying his legacy in both Nigerian football and the English top flight.
