Israel Unanimously Rejects Calls for Deals on Palestinian Statehood
Israel Unanimously Rejects Calls for Deals on Palestinian Statehood – On Sunday, February 18, Israel’s government unanimously voted to reject any foreign attempts to establish a Palestinian state post the conflict with Hamas, according to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The measure, swiftly adopted by the Israeli government, states that Israel “outright rejects” international calls for a two-state solution, emphasizing that such an arrangement should only be achieved through direct negotiations without preconditions.
The declaration opposes the unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state and criticizes any international interference, citing potential rewards to terrorists.
Netanyahu warned that recognizing a Palestinian state under external influence, particularly after the Oct. 7 terrorist attack, would significantly reward terrorism and hinder future peace settlements.
Last week, during a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Netanyahu characterized the two-state solution as a “prize” for Hamas, aligning with the Israeli government’s rejection of foreign-backed Palestinian statehood.

Interestingly, Hamas also rejects calls for a brokered Palestinian state, albeit for different reasons. Senior Hamas official Khaled Mashal stated that the group opposes the two-state solution because it entails recognizing the legitimacy of Israel, which they find unacceptable.
US President Joe Biden has consistently advocated for ending the Gaza conflict with a reformed Palestinian Authority leading to the official recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state.
The Oct. 7 massacre, which claimed over 1,200 lives and resulted in more than 240 kidnappings, remains a significant backdrop to the ongoing geopolitical tensions and debates surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The Hamas-Israeli conflict is a long-standing and complex geopolitical issue centered around the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Hamas, considered a Palestinian militant group, has been involved in ongoing conflicts with Israel. The root causes include historical disputes over territory, refugee issues, and differing national aspirations.
The conflict has resulted in numerous confrontations, including military operations and periods of heightened tensions, with both sides holding divergent views on the path to a resolution. International efforts continue to seek a peaceful and just solution to the longstanding tensions in the region.
