Gianluigi Donnarumma Confirms PSG Exit Before End of 2025 Summer Transfer Window

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has all but confirmed he will be leaving the French champions before the close of the 2025 summer transfer window.

The Italian shot-stopper, who played a crucial role in PSG’s 2025 UEFA Champions League triumph, was left out of the squad for their upcoming UEFA Super Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Reports indicate that Donnarumma was stunned and deeply disappointed by the decision.

What Did Donnarumma Say About His PSG Future?
In an emotional statement, the 25-year-old addressed his exclusion and hinted at an imminent departure:

“From the first day I arrived, I gave everything on and off the pitch to earn my place and defend the goal of Paris Saint-Germain. Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team’s success. I am disappointed and disheartened. I hope to have the opportunity to look the fans at the Parc des Princes in the eyes one more time and say goodbye as it should be done. If that doesn’t happen, I want you to know that your support and affection mean the world to me, and I will never forget it. I will always carry with me the memory of all the emotions, the magical nights, and of you, who made me feel at home. To my teammates, my second family – thank you for every battle, every laugh, every moment we shared. You will always be my brothers. Playing for this club and living in this city has been an immense honour. Thank you, Paris. 💙❤️”

Luis Enrique Takes Full Responsibility
PSG head coach Luis Enrique confirmed that the decision to drop Donnarumma was his alone:

“Donnarumma is out of the squad as it’s my own decision. I am 100% responsible. I want a different kind of goalkeeper and I made this decision. Gigio is one of the best goalkeepers in the whole world. We are shocked by PSG. There’s zero respect by the club after 4 years together. We will consider the situation also with our legal team. Gigio was even ready to reduce his salary but PSG changed the conditions again.”

Where Could Donnarumma Go Next?
The Italian international has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League, with Manchester City, Manchester United, and Chelsea all reportedly interested. Recent reports suggest that City—who are said to be in the market for a long-term number one despite re-signing James Trafford—are closely monitoring his situation.

As the transfer window nears its close, all eyes will be on Donnarumma’s next move, with speculation mounting that he could soon swap Ligue 1 for the English top flight.
