Ganduje’s Children Hold 20% Shares in Kano’s N4bn Dry Port Project
Ganduje Accused of Diverting Kano’s 20% Stake in N4bn Dry Port Project
A fresh investigation has linked former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to alleged diversion of public assets in the Dala Inland Dry Port project. According to Premium Times, Ganduje is accused of secretly transferring the Kano State Government’s 20 percent equity in the multi-billion-naira project into private hands, including those of his own children.
The report claims that documents show the stake, which Kano acquired in 2006 as part of efforts to position the state as a regional trade hub, was quietly moved out of government control. Some of the new beneficiaries named in the filings were allegedly Ganduje’s relatives, who later became co-owners and directors of the dry port company.
The investigation further alleges that, not long after the controversial transfer, a contract worth more than N4 billion connected to the project was awarded to a firm tied to the same family-linked shareholders.
The Dala Inland Dry Port, designed to serve as a customs-recognized port of origin and destination, has long been touted as a strategic project for northern Nigeria’s economy. Its development was meant to boost trade efficiency, reduce congestion at seaports, and open up access for businesses in Kano and neighbouring states.
So far, neither Ganduje nor the alleged beneficiaries have publicly responded to the revelations. Civil society groups and anti-corruption campaigners are already demanding a probe into the matter, calling for full disclosure of ownership documents and an independent review of procurement records tied to the project.
If proven true, the allegations would mark a serious breach of public trust, raising concerns over conflict of interest, transparency, and governance in handling critical state investments.
Editor’s note: The allegations are based on documents and findings reported by Premium Times. They have not yet been independently verified, and we will update this story as new details emerge.
