A former governor of Anambra State, Senator Chris Ngige has been arrested in Abuja. According to reports, Ngige was picked by armed EFCC operatives from his house on Justice Mohammed Bello Road in Abuja.

Earlier reports claimed that the former governor and minister of Labour and Employment under then late President Muhammadu Buhari was kidnapped in Abuja. However his media aide, Fred Chukwuelobe, denied this claim and clarified that Ngige is with the EFCC.

“Former Governor of Anambra State and immediate past minister of labour and employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, is with the EFCC. More details later.”

The EFCC has not yet issued an official statement, leaving the exact reason for the operation unknown at the time of filing this report.

The development comes just days after Ngige’s convoy was attacked in Anambra State by armed men. A police officer was shot during the ambush, while several others sustained injuries. Ngige was not present in the vehicle during the attack.
