Footballer Rafa Mir ‘Banned from Valencia Training’ After Arrest for Alleged Sexual Assault

Valencia has reportedly suspended former Wolves striker Rafa Mir from training following his arrest on suspicion of alleged sexual assault against a 25-year-old woman.

The 27-year-old, recently loaned to Valencia from Sevilla, was released on bail after a court appearance on Wednesday, having spent two days in police custody.

Mir’s lawyer, Jaime Campaner, maintained that the encounter was “without a doubt” consensual. However, Mir’s bail conditions include surrendering his passport, a restraining order preventing contact with the alleged victim, and weekly check-ins at the courthouse.

According to Spanish news agency EFE, Valencia banned Mir from training on Thursday and Friday, with the club expected to assess his situation over the four-day international break. Coach Ruben Baraja is expected to give the squad the weekend off, with several players away on international duty.

The Civil Guard confirmed that a La Liga footballer had been arrested but refuted reports that another individual was also in custody.

A spokesperson said no additional arrests had been made but noted that this could change. Spanish newspaper Marca later reported that a friend of Mir was detained a day after him in connection with a separate alleged sexual assault involving a 21-year-old woman.

Reports from Spanish media suggest the alleged assault occurred during a private party at Mir’s home, following an invitation after meeting at a nightclub. Initially, local police were called to the property to address a potential disturbance but left after calming the situation.

In a brief statement, Valencia FC acknowledged Mir’s arrest, pledging full cooperation with the courts as more information becomes available.
