Before his imprisonment term of four-and-a-half years was pronounced on February 22, Alves penned a sincere letter to Joana, expressing remorse for his actions and acknowledging her unwavering support during the tumultuous period.
Vogue reported that Alves conveyed his deep feelings, stating, ‘What I dreamed of and what I continue to dream of. I want to take all the paths with you. I didn’t have the wrong woman, yes, it was you.’ He continued, ‘There is not a single day, not a single moment, not a single plan in which you are not there. I pray every day for the day to come that I can see you wake up.’
The heartfelt note, which reflected Alves’ desire for reconciliation, was initially shared by Joana on her Instagram but was promptly deleted. She explained the inadvertent public sharing as an error intended only for her close circle of friends.
Following Alves’ sentencing and the court’s order for him to compensate the victim with £130,000 (150,000 euros), reports suggest that he might be released as early as July 20, having served a third of his sentence, according to Spanish media sources.
The revelation of the intimate letter adds a layer of complexity to the already dramatic legal proceedings, shedding light on the personal struggles and emotions surrounding the former football star’s circumstances.
