Euro 2024 Injury Causes Major Transfer Dilemma for Arsenal

Kieran Tierney’s injury at Euro 2024 may significantly affect Arsenal’s transfer strategy. The defender was carried off on a stretcher during Scotland’s draw with Switzerland on Wednesday, suffering what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

Tierney was visibly devastated, covering his face as he was removed from the pitch. He had collapsed clutching his hamstring following a seemingly innocuous challenge with Switzerland forward Dan Ndoye. The 27-year-old has faced a challenging year, plagued by recurring hamstring issues.

Arsenal loaned him to Real Sociedad last season, but his impact was severely limited by this persistent problem. His hamstring troubles resulted in him playing only 20 La Liga matches and 27 games overall during the season.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal are looking to offload Tierney this summer. The funds raised from player sales are expected to be reinvested into strengthening Mikel Arteta’s squad ahead of the 2024-25 Premier League season.

Arsenal’s hopes of securing a substantial transfer fee for Kieran Tierney may be dashed due to concerns surrounding his injury history.

Even if he manages to regain fitness in time for Arsenal’s pre-season, potential suitors are likely to approach negotiations cautiously, seeking to pay a reduced price for a player whose struggles with staying fit are well-documented. Tierney’s last Premier League appearance was back in May 2023, having spent the recent season on loan at La Real.

The primary worry for Arsenal now is Tierney’s health, as it appears almost certain he will miss the remainder of Scotland’s Euro 2024 campaign.

Manager Steve Clarke has confirmed Tierney’s absence from Scotland’s crucial Group A clash against Hungary, indicating that the injury seems serious enough to rule him out even if Scotland were to progress to the knockout stages.

Clarke expressed sympathy for Tierney, acknowledging his importance to the team and calling on others to step up in his absence: “He’s definitely out [of the Hungary match].

It looks pretty bad, but Kieran won’t make the next game. You have to feel for him. He’s a top player for us, and someone else has got to step up.”

As Arsenal assess their summer transfer plans, Tierney’s injury setback poses a significant challenge, potentially impacting their ability to strengthen the squad ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.
