Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha has been handed a suspension by the English FA following an act of misconduct after the Premier League match against Ipswich Town on Saturday, December 14, 2024. The incident has drawn widespread attention, resulting in disciplinary action against the Portuguese international.

The FA officially announced on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, that Cunha will serve a two-match suspension and pay an £80,000 fine.

In a statement, the FA outlined the decision:
“Matheus Cunha has been suspended for two games and fined £80,000 following the Premier League fixture between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ipswich Town on Saturday 14 December 2024. The forward was charged with misconduct and it was alleged that he acted in an improper manner after the final whistle. He admitted the charge, and the sanctions were subsequently imposed by an independent Regulatory Commission. Full written reasons for this case will be published in due course.”

The suspension means Cunha will miss Wolverhampton’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest and the FA Cup third-round match away at Bristol City.

However, the Brazilian forward is expected to return to action for Wolves’ critical away fixture against Newcastle United on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.

Cunha’s absence will be a significant blow for Wolves, as he has been an instrumental figure in their campaign this season, leading the team as their top scorer with 10 Premier League goals and contributing four assists. The team will undoubtedly feel the void left by the Brazilian, whose performances have been pivotal in their attacking efforts.
