I’d made some little art films in the early ’70s, but when I got this camera in the Philippines I was just mesmerised, looking through the viewfinder. I really responded to that, so I made different documentaries, because I always loved to shoot.”
All three of Eleanor and Francis’s children made appearances in their father’s films. Gian-Carlo was involved in second-unit photography before his untimely passing. Roman, who has directed several movies, currently serves as the president of his father’s film company, American Zoetrope.
Meanwhile, Sofia has garnered acclaim as a filmmaker, with notable works such as ‘Lost In Translation’ and ‘Priscilla’, the latter dedicated to her mother.
Despite her busy schedule, Eleanor made family a priority. She chose to skip the New York Film Festival for the screening of her film ‘Priscilla’ in October last year to spend quality time with her mother.

In a statement relayed by producer Youree Henley, Sofia expressed her regret for not being present at the event, saying: “I’m so sorry to not be there with you, but I’m with my mother, to whom this film is dedicated.”
