EFCC Arrests ‘Airline Captain’ for N1 Billion Fraud in Kaduna – Operatives from the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended Captain Nuhu Haruna on charges of criminal breach of trust involving a substantial sum of N1,020,000,000. The arrest was officially announced by the EFCC Spokesman, Dele Oyewale, in a statement released on the evening of February 20.
As per the provided statement, the suspect was taken into custody based on a complaint filed by an individual who claimed that in December 2023, he engaged with Captain Nuhu Haruna for a foreign exchange transaction amounting to N1,020,000,000.

The petitioner alleged that he transferred the funds into the suspect’s account with the expectation of receiving its equivalent in dollars.
However, it was revealed that the suspect presented fraudulent evidence of payments, deceiving the petitioner into believing that the transaction had been completed.
Upon preliminary investigation, it was discovered that Captain Nuhu Haruna, who asserted his identity as an airline captain, allegedly diverted the funds for personal gain.
He utilized the misappropriated money to acquire various assets, including a house valued at N155 million, another property worth N350 million, three 18-seater Toyota Hiace buses bearing the Air Unity Aviation Services logo, and four luxury cars.
Notably, the suspect intended to utilize these assets for the establishment of his purported airline company, Air Unity Aviation Services.
Dele Oyewale stated that Captain Nuhu Haruna will face legal proceedings once the investigations are concluded. The charges against him encompass the alleged criminal breach of trust, providing a comprehensive overview of the financial misconduct and misappropriation of funds for personal ventures.
