E! News, the long-running entertainment news program that first aired in 1991, has been officially cancelled as a linear television show.

The show will end its run on September 25, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The cancellation was communicated to staff on Thursday morning, July 24.  New episodes will still air next week before the final sign-off in September. The show had previously gone on a two-year hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic before returning.

E! News will now continue strictly as a digital brand. Some of its correspondents are expected to transition to Versant—the newly formed media company that now includes E!, USA Network, MSNBC, CNBC, Oxygen, and other NBCUniversal properties. will focus on updating its digital content and social media channels throughout the day.

Despite the cancellation, the E! channel will still air original and acquired content including Botched PresentsHonestly Cavallari, and upcoming shows like Kimora: Back in the Fab Lane and Dirty Rotten Scandals. The network also remains known for its red carpet coverage and events like the Critics Choice Awards.

The decision to cancel the show is said to have come from the E! network, as it looks to leverage its brand of entertainment coverage and commentary across digital and social platforms. A source indicates that as news consumers demand real-time digital coverage, a broadcast during the 11 p.m. slot (which “E! News” has occupied since 2022) no longer best serves the audience. E! boasts a growing digital presence with 87 million followers across social media platforms.
