D'Tigress moves to top 10 in latest FIBA ranking
Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have been ranked the 8th best in the world in the latest FIBA Women’s Rankings released on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
The ranking comes on the heels of D’Tigress’ dominance at the Women’s AfroBasket, where they claimed the title for a record seventh time. The West African giants secured their latest championship in 2025 after defeating Mali in the final held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire — a victory that also booked their place at the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup.
In the updated global standings, the USA maintained its grip on the number one spot, with Russia, France, and China following in second, third, and fourth positions, respectively. Belgium climbed into the top five after their EuroBasket Women triumph, while Spain and Canada are ranked sixth and seventh. Brazil and Serbia complete the top 10, sitting in ninth and tenth place.
Elsewhere in the rankings, Great Britain dropped two places to 22nd, while South Sudan made headlines as the biggest mover, leaping 31 places to 55th. Mali, who impressed with their AfroBasket performance, now hold the 18th position globally.
D’Tigress’ continued rise on the world stage further cements their status as a dominant force in African basketball and an emerging powerhouse in the global women’s game.
