Today’s topic is one that many can relate to—Depression From a Heartbreak. Heartbreak can leave you feeling lost, empty, and even struggling with your mental health. But how do you navigate that pain and find healing?

Joining me in this conversation is someone who has been through it—Dennis. He’s here to share his personal experience and insights on coping, recovery, and moving forward.

So sit back, take a deep breath, and let’s talk.”

Opening & Personal Experience

🎙️ Fidel Ugochukwu Perez (Host):
“Dennis, let’s start from the beginning. Can you take us back to that moment when the heartbreak happened? What was that experience like for you?”

(Dennis responds)

“I’ve had my fair share of heartbreaks, but there’s one recent experience that really shook me to my core. It caught me off guard and left me feeling completely off balance. To be honest, this was the toughest heartbreak I’ve faced so far. It affected my concentration and I didn’t feel like myself for days. For the first time in my life, I felt truly, deeply heartbroken. That’s my story.”

🎙️ Fidel Ugochukwu Perez (Host):
“That must have been really tough. At what point did you realize that your sadness had turned into something deeper—possibly depression?”

Dennis Response:

“I realized my sadness had turned into something more when I caught myself constantly scrolling through my phone. I’d see our old pictures and read our messages, and it would bring back all the sad feelings. The more I looked, the more depressed I became. It was like I was holding onto the past and couldn’t let go.”

Lets Talk about Coping Mechanisms & Challenges

🎙️ Fidel Ugochukwu Perez (Host):
“Everyone deals with heartbreak differently. For you, what were some of the biggest emotional struggles you faced during that period?”

(Dennis responds)

“One of the biggest emotional struggles I faced after the breakup was finding it hard to communicate with people like I normally do. Nothing seemed funny to me anymore, and even though I didn’t cry, I was in deep pain. It was a really difficult time for me.

🎙️ Fidel Ugochukwu Perez (Host):
I see, well, to everyone listening, we all know that navigating a private connection can be challenging, especially when it comes to heartbreak and depression. Keeping a relationship private can mean lacking social support, increased stress from maintaining secrecy, and difficulty processing emotions. These challenges can trigger feelings of heartbreak and depression, making it harder to cope. So, Dennis I have another question for you. “Did you find yourself withdrawing from people, or did you reach out for support? How did your relationships with family and friends change during that time?”

(Dennis Response)

“At first, I withdrew from people and didn’t reach out for support. I just needed some time to be alone and process my emotions. But this period of solitude wasn’t long-lasting. As for my relationships with family and friends, they didn’t really change. It was just me who was going through a tough time, and I had to deal with it on my own.”

Talking About Healing & Recovery

🎙️ Fidel Ugochukwu Perez (Host):
Okay, urm..Talking about healing and recovery,  we all know moving forward from heartbreak isn’t easy, but there’s usually a turning point. What was that moment for you when you felt things were starting to change?”

(Dennis responds)

When I realized I’d lost my confidence after the breakup, I knew I had to make a change. I’d given my all to the relationship, but I couldn’t keep beating myself up over it. So, I told myself to get up, dust myself off, and move on with life. And that’s exactly what I did. After a short while, I started to feel like things were turning around for me.”

🎙️ Fidel Ugochukwu Perez (Host):
“That’s really inspiring. Well, to regain stability during heartbreak and depression, it’s essential to focus on emotional regulation, physical well-being, and self-care. Practices like deep breathing exercises, mindfulness meditation, and journaling can help calm the mind and process emotions. Engaging in physical activities like yoga, walking, or nature walks can also release tension and improve mood. So, I’m directing this question based on the this. “Were there specific people, activities, or practices that helped you regain stability?”

(Dennis responds)

Music was my go-to comfort during that tough time. It has a way of speaking to the soul, especially when it’s broken. So, I turned to music for solace. I also made it a point to spend time with friends, meeting up with people who could lift my spirits and provide some much-needed cheer.”

Advice & Moving Forward

🎙️ Fidel Ugochukwu Perez (Host):
Alright, alright! “For anyone listening who might be going through a similar experience, what advice would you give them on handling heartbreak and depression?”

(Dennis responds)

“The best advice I can give is to not take life too seriously. Love, heartbreak, and depression are all part of the human experience. These challenges are what make us human, and it’s okay to feel pain sometimes. Just don’t let it consume you for too long. Keep moving forward, continue living, and remember that life is precious. You just have to live, man!”

🎙️ Fidel Ugochukwu Perez (Host):
“Before we wrap up, I want to ask—if you could say one thing to your past self during that tough time, what would it be?”
