D’banj Urges Government to Intervene in P-Square Family Feud, Calls for Reconciliation
Veteran Afrobeats icon D’banj has added his voice to the growing calls for reconciliation within the Okoye family, as the rift between twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye (P-Square) and their elder brother and former manager Jude Okoye continues to make headlines.
During a recent appearance on Adesope Live, D’banj described the ongoing legal and personal conflict as “unfortunate” and stressed the need for peace, urging the Federal Government and key industry stakeholders to step in and mediate.
The feud escalated after Peter Okoye accused Jude Okoye and his company, Northside Entertainment, of involvement in a $1 million fraud, igniting a storm of public debate and fan division. The controversy has overshadowed the musical legacy of one of Africa’s most successful groups, P-Square.
D’banj revealed that he had a private conversation with Peter Okoye on a recent flight, during which they discussed the strained relationship. Despite the tensions, D’banj remains hopeful that the family can reach an amicable resolution, emphasizing that the value of P-Square’s musical catalogue is like “gold” and should not be tarnished by conflict.
He further emphasized the need to protect and preserve the group’s legacy, stating that even if Peter and Paul never perform together again, the brothers owe it to themselves and to their fans to find a peaceful path forward.
Recalling a similar situation in the past, D’banj mentioned how former President Olusegun Obasanjo once intervened in a financial dispute involving football legend Jay Jay Okocha, highlighting that government and respected elders have previously played peacemaker roles in matters of national interest.
He concluded his remarks with an emotional appeal to industry elders, cultural leaders, and institutions to help mediate the Okoye brothers’ dispute. According to D’banj, unity within the music industry is crucial for its continued growth, and public figures must lead by example in resolving personal and professional disagreements.
