Davido sparks buzz with Cristiano Ronaldo story and football banter
Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, famously known as Davido, has set social media abuzz with a playful story about football legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
Taking to his X account on May 6, 2025, Davido humorously recalled an experience from a few years ago when Cristiano Ronaldo personally invited him to watch a Manchester United match at Old Trafford. According to Davido, plans for the evening had been perfectly arranged, including dinner, celebrations, and post-match hangouts with the football icon.
However, things didn’t go as planned. The Unavailable crooner recounted how Manchester United’s disappointing loss that day quickly dampened the mood. In a surprising turn, Ronaldo, visibly upset by the result, reportedly left the gathering abruptly and headed home, cancelling the evening’s festivities.
In his lighthearted post, Davido jokingly blamed then-Manchester United captain Harry Maguire for the defeat, writing: “Football ehn fit give person BP… I remember when CR7 personally invite me come watch match for Old Trafford then couple years ago… He don book dinner ALL! Party chillin etc… Nah so dem go lose match… BABA VEX GO HOUSE… since that day I still never forgive Maguire.”
The post quickly went viral, sparking laughter, reactions, and debates among fans, with many amused by Davido’s humorous storytelling and unexpected connection to one of football’s biggest stars.
