Chelsea Confirm Christopher Nkunku’s Permanent Move to AC Milan
Chelsea Football Club have officially confirmed the departure of Christopher Nkunku to AC Milan on a permanent transfer. The announcement was made simultaneously on both clubs’ official websites on Saturday, August 30, 2025, bringing an end to the Frenchman’s two-year spell at Stamford Bridge.
Nkunku, 27, had expressed his desire to seek a new challenge in Serie A since the opening of the summer transfer window, and negotiations between the two clubs were swiftly concluded. The deal is worth €35 million plus €5 million in performance-related add-ons, while the forward is set to earn €5 million annually. At San Siro, he will wear the number 18 shirt, the same number he donned during his Chelsea career.
The French international first joined Chelsea in June 2023 from RB Leipzig amid much excitement. However, his debut season was hampered by a serious injury, restricting him to just 14 appearances and three goals in all competitions.
Nkunku bounced back strongly in his second season in London, featuring on 48 occasions across all competitions and contributing important goals. Notably, he scored five goals in the UEFA Conference League, playing a key role in Chelsea’s triumphant campaign that culminated with the Blues lifting the trophy in Wroclaw.
His final goal in blue came in dramatic fashion—a decisive strike against Benfica in the Club World Cup Round of 16, underlining his knack for delivering in crucial moments.
Nkunku has now signed a five-year contract with AC Milan, running until 2030, and his arrival is expected to inject quality and creativity into the Rossoneri squad. Milan endured a disappointing 2024/25 season, finishing in eighth place in Serie A, and will be hoping the versatile forward can help spearhead their revival both domestically and in Europe.
