Chelsea Open Negotiations with Borussia Dortmund for Jamie Gittens Ahead of FIFA Club World Cup
Chelsea Football Club have reportedly initiated formal talks with Borussia Dortmund regarding a potential transfer for 20-year-old winger Jamie Gittens, as preparations intensify ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Gittens, who began his football journey in Chelsea’s youth academy, has been on the club’s radar since the January 2025 transfer window.
The West London side is continuing its mission to build a strong and competitive squad, with The Telegraph confirming that discussions have resumed where they left off earlier in the year concerning a possible deal for the talented youngster.
The pursuit of Gittens casts uncertainty over the future of Jadon Sancho, currently on loan at Chelsea from Manchester United. Despite a clause in Sancho’s loan agreement that obligates Chelsea to purchase him for a fee between £20 million and £25 million—triggered by their top-14 finish in the 2024/25 Premier League season—the club still has the option to walk away from the deal. However, doing so would require the Blues to pay a £5 million penalty fee.
Gittens, known for his pace and creativity on the flanks, is expected to draw interest from several top clubs aside from Chelsea, given his potential and recent performances. His prior connection to the club’s youth system adds an emotional layer to Chelsea’s renewed interest.
Meanwhile, due to the scheduling of the FIFA Club World Cup, the Premier League has set a special transfer window period. The summer window is open from June 1 to June 10 for clubs involved in the tournament and will reopen for all teams from June 16 to September 1.
