Cardi B Faces Lawsuit Over Alleged Microphone Assault During Las Vegas Performance

International rap sensation Cardi B is facing a lawsuit for assault and battery following an incident that occurred during a day party performance at Drai’s Beachclub in Las Vegas in 2023.

The case was filed by a woman identified only as Jane Doe, a resident of Ohio, who alleges that the rapper intentionally struck her with a microphone, causing both physical and emotional harm.

According to the legal complaint, the incident unfolded when Cardi B—performing under sweltering heat as temperatures reportedly climbed into the high 30s (Celsius)—urged the crowd to throw water at her to help her stay cool. Following the request, numerous audience members began splashing water toward the stage, in what was seemingly a playful and participatory moment.

However, Jane Doe claims that when she followed suit and threw water at the “I Like It” hitmaker, Cardi unexpectedly reacted by hurling her microphone directly at her, allegedly hitting her and causing injury. The plaintiff maintains that Cardi B’s reaction was disproportionate and aggressive, characterizing it as an overreaction that resulted in personal injury and emotional distress.

The incident was widely recorded and shared across social media platforms, drawing significant public attention. At the time, Las Vegas police launched an investigation, but after reviewing the footage and witness accounts, no criminal charges were brought against the rapper.

Adding a further layer to the legal argument, the lawsuit points to the microphone itself, which became a viral artifact following the incident. It was later auctioned off and sold for $99,000 (approximately £73,000), with the proceeds donated to two charities: the Wounded Warrior Project and Friendship Circle Las Vegas, a local nonprofit.

While the gesture was seen by many as philanthropic, the plaintiff argues that the sale and resulting publicity exacerbated her psychological distress, as it commercialized and trivialized the event at her expense.

Doe’s attorney, Cierra N. Norris, has confirmed that a press conference will be held in Las Vegas later today to address the case and provide further legal context.

As of now, Cardi B has not publicly responded to the allegations or the lawsuit.
