“Burna Boy Faces Backlash Over Songwriter Controversy Despite Denials”
Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy is embroiled in controversy regarding his use of songwriters, with fans accusing him of contradicting previous admissions.
The dispute began when Logos Olori, a signee of Davido’s label, mentioned Burna Boy and other artists who employ songwriters due to their hectic schedules and industry demands.
In response, Burna Boy took to his social media handle to defend himself, asserting that those credited as songwriters on his tracks are actually producers, citing norms in Western music industries. However, fans quickly unearthed evidence that seemed to challenge his claims.
They pointed to a 2020 tweet where Burna Boy publicly acknowledged Peruzzi, a songwriter, for his contributions to one of his songs. Social media influencer Daniel Regha shared a screenshot of this tweet, intensifying the debate among fans.

Regha directly addressed Burna Boy’s recent denial, stating, “Burna, this was you in 2020 giving credit to Peruzzi as a songwriter, but suddenly nobody writes for you? For the record, no one receives songwriting credit unless they co-wrote or contributed to the song, so your statement isn’t valid…”
The controversy has sparked broader discussions about the roles of songwriters and producers in the music industry. While some defended Burna Boy’s perspective, others criticized him for lack of transparency.
