Brazil’s most tattooed man, Leandro de Souza, has unveiled a remarkable transformation following painful surgery to remove the ink that covered 95 percent of his body.

At 35 years old, Leandro has undergone two laser sessions aimed at eliminating over two decades’ worth of tattoos. Residing in the Brazilian border city of Bagé, near Uruguay, he made the significant decision to erase more than 170 tattoos after embracing evangelicalism in his life.

“I got my first tattoo when I was just 13 years old,” de Souza explained to the Brazilian online news outlet G1. “The initial tattoos were heavily influenced by the idolization of that time.”

His journey towards removing the tattoos marks a significant shift in his personal beliefs and lifestyle, highlighting his commitment to starting anew.

The tattoos were inspired by favorite rock banks of the moment – Nirvana, Guns N’ Roses, and Metallica.

De Souza’s went down a dark path 10 years ago when he divorced his wife.

After splitting from the mother of his 10-year-old son, Leandro de Souza experienced a tumultuous nine-year period during which he first experimented with cocaine and later mixed ecstasy, LSD, and alcohol.

“I couldn’t bear the life I was living anymore,” he reflected. “I felt like a sideshow attraction at the events I attended, like a circus animal.”

Everything changed for de Souza when he visited a shelter and was introduced to evangelism. This encounter offered him a new perspective on life.

“The first step in overcoming addiction is accepting that you can’t do it alone and acknowledging that you are an addict,” he stated. “I managed to reach that point when I entered the municipal shelter in Bagé. Within a week, a woman at the shelter referred me and began to evangelize me.”

De Souza still has to undergo six more sessions, which are scheduled every three months and last 30 to 40 minutes.

‘It hurts a lot more than doing it,’ he said. ‘It hurts three times more than doing it. Even with anesthesia, the process is very painful.’
