Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala is expected to miss a significant portion—if not the entirety—of the 2025/26 season after sustaining a serious injury during the FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final clash between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
The incident occurred in the first half of the intense match, held on Saturday, July 6, 2025, when Musiala collided with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma while chasing a ball near the byline.
In a distressing scene, the 22-year-old German international cried out in pain and grabbed his left ankle before covering his face with his shirt as he was stretchered off the field. He was immediately transported to the hospital for medical evaluation and has since returned to Munich to undergo surgery.

Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, expressed deep disappointment over the injury, calling it a major setback for both the player and the club.

The midfielder, regarded as one of Bayern’s most vital creative forces, had only recently returned to form after battling minor injuries earlier in the season. His absence is expected to leave a major void in the team’s midfield dynamics.
Meanwhile, PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma took to social media after the game to extend his sympathies, writing that his thoughts and prayers are with Musiala and wishing him a full and speedy recovery.
