The Katsina State Police Command has foiled two kidnap attempts in the Sabuwa Local Government Area and rescued 28 victims.

The spokesperson of the command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, who confirmed the incident in a statement said the attacks, which occurred on Monday and Tuesday, claimed three lives.

According to the PPRO, the operations were part of intensified efforts by the command under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Bello Shehu to tackle kidnapping and banditry in the state.

“The command, under the able leadership of CP Bello Shehu, has succeeded in foiling two kidnap attempts in Sabuwa LGA, Katsina State, and rescued 28 kidnapped victims,” the statement read.

On Tuesday, at about 9:24 a.m., the police received a distress call from a Good Samaritan that suspected armed bandits had blocked the Sabuwa–Kaya Road near Inno Junction in Sabuwa LGA and abducted 14 people.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer promptly mobilised operatives and responded to the scene. A gun battle ensued, and the kidnappers fled due to the superior firepower and tactics of the police. All 14 kidnapped victims were rescued unhurt.

“Regrettably, the bandits shot and k!lled one Abba, a 27-year-old man from Funtua town, Funtua LGA,” the statement added

Similarly, on Monday, July 28, 2025, at about 11:27 p.m., suspected armed bandits attacked Zagaizagi Village, also in Sabuwa LGA, kidnapping residents and killing two people.

“The DPO mobilised personnel to the scene and engaged the attackers in a gun duel, successfully foiling the kidnap attempt. Fourteen victims were rescued, and two rustled cows were recovered. Unfortunately, two residents were shot and k!lled by the bandits during the attack”, the statement noted.

Sadiq noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Shehu, commended the operatives for their bravery and dedication.
