Passengers Showered with Maggots from Overhead Cabin on Plane – A Delta Air Lines flight from Amsterdam to Detroit faced a harrowing incident as passengers found themselves covered in maggots that had fallen from an overhead cabin where a “bag of rotten fish” was stored.

Approximately an hour into the flight, passengers noticed maggots landing on them, prompting the plane to turn back and return to Schiphol Airport.

The unsettling discovery led to the evacuation of passengers for a thorough deep-cleaning of the aircraft. The suitcase containing the rotten fish, which had evidently broken open, was reportedly destroyed during the cleaning process.

According to LIB, a passenger named Kelce informed MailOnline that Delta staff identified the suitcase owner and detained him on the plane after everyone else disembarked. The consequences or actions taken against the owner remain unclear.

In response to the disturbing incident, affected travelers were offered compensation, including 8,000 air miles, hotel accommodations, and a $30 meal voucher for those facing overnight delays.

Philip Schotte, a fellow passenger, recounted the shocking experience of sitting next to a woman who was showered with “at least a dozen maggots.” Expressing his disgust, he questioned the lapse in security measures at the airport for not detecting rotten fish and maggots on security cameras.

Another passenger shared their experience on Reddit, noting that their family was seated directly in front of the maggots.

The lady behind them alerted the flight attendants, leading to a relocation further ahead in the plane. Despite thoroughly checking their carry-on bag located near the affected one, the passenger in question did not exit the plane, leaving the consequences unclear.
