Former One Direction member, Liam Payne, was reportedly dropped by his record label, Universal Music, just days before his unexpected passing, leaving fans in shock.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Universal Music made the decision to part ways with the singer as his solo career struggled to gain traction.
An insider revealed, “Liam received a significant advance, but unfortunately, he didn’t manage to recoup the investment. Out of all the One Direction members, Liam seemed to be heading in the wrong direction musically.”
It was also reported that Payne’s second album had been put on hold before the label severed their ties with him. His solo journey had started in 2016 when he signed with Capitol Records, a subsidiary of Universal Music, following One Direction’s announcement of an indefinite hiatus in 2015.

Despite early promise with hits like “Strip That Down,” Payne’s musical trajectory faced challenges, ultimately leading to his dismissal.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Universal Music Group expressed their sorrow in an Instagram post last night, sharing an image of Payne and stating, “We are devastated by the tragic loss of Liam Payne.”
Their tribute continued, “His legacy will forever resonate through his music and the countless fans who admired and cherished him. Our deepest sympathies go out to Liam’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
In another blow to the singer’s career, it was also revealed that earlier this month, Payne’s public relations team had resigned, leaving him without any representation in the critical weeks before his passing.
