Mbappe-PSG Salary Dispute Faces Hearing Amid France Captain's Mention in 'Rape' Report

Kylian Mbappe’s ongoing dispute with his former club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) over €55 million ($60 million) in unpaid wages and bonuses is set to be addressed by a French league committee later today.

This hearing follows a Swedish newspaper report claiming that Mbappe, captain of the French national team, is being investigated for rape by Swedish police after a visit to Stockholm.

While Aftonbladet reported the alleged rape without naming the suspect, another outlet, Expressen, identified 25-year-old Mbappe as the accused.

Mbappe’s representatives told AFP they were unaware of any legal complaint, and the player himself dismissed the report as “fake news” in a post on X (formerly Twitter), hinting that the timing of the story was linked to his PSG salary row.

In September, the French league (LFP) ordered PSG to pay Mbappe €55 million, a sum he claims he was owed when he left for Real Madrid at the end of last season.

The upcoming hearing will involve a committee that includes members of the French national players’ union, a magistrate, and an independent president. The committee has the authority to uphold or overturn the LFP’s decision.

Mbappe’s disagreement with PSG stems from a previous agreement in August 2023, when he was excluded from the squad for refusing to extend his contract.

His refusal meant PSG did not receive a transfer fee when he left for Real Madrid. As part of that agreement, Mbappe allegedly waived the €55 million in bonuses if he left for free. However, Mbappe’s camp disputes the validity of this agreement, calling it a “hidden agreement.”

The committee’s decision on the matter is expected to take several days.
