Will there be an iPhone 16 Pro Max? – Apple is reportedly planning to increase the size of the iPhone 16 Pro Max compared to its predecessor, based on a recent leak.

According to reliable tipster Ice Universe, who shared detailed dimensions of the upcoming iPhone on Twitter/X, Apple is set to make the phone taller, wider, and thicker.

The leaked dimensions for the iPhone 16 Pro Max are 163.024mm x 77.575mm x 8.26mm, with a 6.883-inch display.

When compared to the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s measurements of 159.9mm x 76.7mm x 8.3mm and its 6.7-inch screen, it is clear that the new model will offer more screen real estate.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max will be marginally taller and thicker, aligning with previous leaks suggesting a 6.9-inch display for Apple’s largest phone once rounded up.

These changes indicate a significant shift in design, potentially offering users a more immersive viewing experience. The increased dimensions could also hint at enhancements in other areas, such as battery life or internal components, as Apple continues to innovate with each new release.

Hopefully, the larger size means a bigger battery for the new iPhone, but some of the additional display space may result from slimmer bezels.

Ice Universe claims that the handset will feature a bezel thickness of just 1.153mm on all four sides, which the tipster asserts will make it the “world’s first” phone to have a “borderless sci-fi form factor.”

We will have to see if this claim holds true when the devices launch in September, but Ice Universe has already shared some comparison images between the iPhone 15 and 16 Pro Max units.

These images, which look like they might have come from Apple marketing material, suggest a significant reduction in bezel size, enhancing the overall sleek and futuristic design of the new iPhone.

If accurate, this innovation could contribute to a more immersive display experience, setting a new standard in smartphone aesthetics.

As my colleague David Phelan reported, the renders shared by Ice Universe this week clearly show a difference in bezel size. If the new near-borderless design information is accurate, it raises questions about the user-friendliness of this form factor.

Apple releases new features and makes design choices slowly and carefully, so it’s likely that this scenario has been well-prepared for.

The larger dimensions may also explain earlier leaks about the iPhone 16’s revamped action button, which will provide a new input method for the device.

This new input method will be both capacitive and mechanical, allowing it to be swiped as well as pressed. According to previous leaks, it will register different levels of pressure to activate various tasks. While Apple will market this as a camera button, reports indicate that it will be programmable.

A bigger and thicker phone may be awkward to handle for those with smaller hands, so an additional, multi-purpose button that can be swiped, touched, and pressed could be a practical solution.
