23-year-old alleged drug addict k!lls his father with machete in Cross River
The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man for k!lling his father with a machete in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that the incident occurred around O-3 Palace, Usaja in Ikpakapit ward, on Sunday, 1 February 2026.
The suspect identified as Bassey Ubi, was said to have attacked his father, who just returned from the church, with a machete.
The deep cut from the machete led to his father’s d3ath. The suspect was almost lynched by a mob before the police intervened.
The spokesperson of the command, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, confirmed the incident.
“The unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of today. The boy’s name is Bassey Ubi. He is 23 years of age and an alleged drug addict. From what we were told, it’s probably the effect of the drugs that made him act that way,” the PPRO said.
“The father (deceased) just returned from church only to be attacked by his son (suspect) in the house. It was a deep machete cut on the neck by the son.”
Eitokpah said if not for the intervention of the police, the suspect would have been k!lled by the mob that inflicted injuries on him.
“He (suspect) was taken, first, to get medical attention and then detained in our facility for further investigation to conclude the case.
“The body of the father was taken to the morgue in Ugep by the family, even before we arrived there,” Eitokpah said.
The PPRO said the Cross River State Police Command, led by CP Rashid Afegbua, is against any form of jungle justice, urging citizens to report or handover suspects to the police.
He also reiterated that jungle justice is a crime and anyone found culpable would be prosecuted accordingly.
